Our Plays

Heartbreak Productions is a national touring theatre company formed by Maddy Kerr and Peter Mimmack in 1991. This will be their 24th year of touring open-air theatre, having performed many times in the beautiful surroundings of The Mount, Alderton. This year they will be performing two plays: Murder on the Terrace at 7pm on Saturday evening and Shakespeare's The Tempest at 5pm on Sunday afternoon.

Murder on the Terrace

The scene is set – A respectable garden party to celebrate Lord Cava’s retirement and the handing over of his sparkling wine empire to his nephew, Charles Standen-Delliver. It is no secret that Charles intends to shut down the business and convert Lord Cava’s Manor (The Cavary) into a conference centre. Unsurprisingly, Charles is later found dead, poisoned, clutching Percival – Lord Cava’s beloved pet parrot. The garden party is thrown into disarray, the sardonic Inspector Back arrives to investigate and the twists and turns of a whodunit both puzzle and entertain alongside dangerous amounts of humour. Can you solve the mystery?

This original murder-mystery by David Kerby-Kendall will be an interactive play with references to Downton, Agatha Christie, part romp, part farce and a whole lot of fun. Come along and figure out if you can decipher ‘whodunit’?!

Running time 2.5 hours with a 20 minute interval Suitable for 8+

The Tempest

Gather round Heartbreak Productions’ stone circle to meet druids, bards and revellers who will perform a mystical rendition of Shakespeare’s final play, The Tempest.

Using masks, dance and song this merry band of performing pagans will transport you to Prospero’s magical isle, upon which he crafts a vengeful attack on his usurping kinsmen.

All alone, save for his daughter, Miranda, and two enslaved island inhabitants – Ariel, a powerful spirit and the monstrous Caliban, Prospero commands a storm to sweep his brother onto the island. Battling against Caliban’s treachery, Ariel attempts to bring off Prospero’s master plan for vengeance in return for her freedom and Miranda sees a proper man for the first time…

More than a love story, this outdoor production of The Tempest explores man’s conflict with nature, freedom and power, betrayal and forgiveness. So get involved at the storytelling circle and witness our druids enact Shakespeare’s most memorable adventure.
