Bailey Conny

Painter on glass since 1995.
Conny has spent the last twenty years seeking to free glass paint as an artistic medium from the restraints of decorative patterns. Her abstract panels play on perceptions of colour depth and light effects as the paint is allowed to meander across a variety of structural surfaces such as sand, glass and beads. Conny’s inspiration comes from a variety of sources: nature, foreign shores, her work as an art historian, and her interests in science and technology all coalesce to create works known for their tactile and engaging character.

– Member of Visual Images Group and Buckinghamshire Open Studios since 2015.
– Member of Northamptonshire Open Studios since 1998.
– Full Member Kettering & District Art Society.
– 2002 to 2014 Certificate to PhD, Art History, University of Leicester.
– Tutor and published author specialising in late medieval sculpture from Northern Germany and Pre-Raphaelitism, also German Expressionism, Renaissance art and the English Country House.

I started painting about 20 years ago, going to local art classes doing water colour. My family bought me a birthday present of oil paints one year. When I asked my art tutor how to use them she said “just have fun with them”. How right she was. They are so versatile and such wonderful colours. So now I paint in oils and pastels.

I have recently returned to art after a long hiatus. Between my last picture and the recent batch was a long and rich flow of life and experience which eventually brought me back to art. I love to create pictures which make people happy and perhaps give a smile when otherwise one would not be forthcoming.

I love to capture the essence of people’s beloved pets and am always happy to take on commissions, although as I work in oils it can take some time for them to dry.  https://thelilypadgallery.co.uk/

I grew up in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and I started painting when I left school as I had enjoyed my art sessions. I have continued since then although I have had no formal training. I like working with oils as they are vibrant and forgiving. My main interests have been seascapes and landscapes.

Born and raised in Bedfordshire, Jane has exhibited successfully in numerous group and solo shows. Her paintings have also been shown at the Mall Galleries in London with The Pastel Society and The Society of Women Artists and can now be viewed at Mosaic in Woburn or by appointment at her studio.

She works with art groups as a demonstrator and tutor and has weekly classes and a full programme of workshops every year.

Best known for her atmospheric pastel paintings of seascapes, landscapes and urban scenes, she also uses various other media when experimenting with colour and texture in her more abstract work.

I am a self taught artist and enjoy using many different mediums to create artwork. I especially enjoy doing portraiture.

I like the subtle effects of watercolours next to the bright vivid colours from pure inks.

For some of my art work I use gold leaf, embroidery silks and patterned tissues to achieve interesting effects.

I accept commissions and can be contacted by email at tina.bacon25@gmail.com

I mainly paint in oil and watercolour and am interested in light, shade and reflections, particularly in the natural world – plants, animals, landscapes and especially seascapes, which remind me of my childhood growing up at the coast.

I live in South Northamptonshire and you can view more of my work here-

Jenny’s details are coming soon.

My immediate surroundings provide a great source of inspiration for my expressionistic landscape painting practice recording my responses to the weather, atmosphere and mood. These aspects of the landscape are my real subjects enabling me to explore contemporary approaches using my favoured mediums of acrylic and oil.

My painterly style combines exhilarating gestural technique, expressive marks and exuberant colour combinations which play an important role in my work.   My goal is to make paintings which are physically exciting and involve experiment and risk taking.

I rediscovered drawing and painting last year whilst on a walk with an illustrator friend. Prior to that, I hadn’t drawn for 20 years!  I come from a creative and artistic family; I’m particularly proud of & inspired by my late grandpa who made a living all his life from his love of painting. He taught me about composition, colour, lines, shapes, pattern and the play between them.  I currently use my artwork to make fine and ethical stationery which I sell in my online Etsy store – www.etsy.com/shop/baytreeboutique

Northamptonshire born artist Sarah Hodgkins began her creative career as an interior designer in the 1980s, but for the last 16 years, she has been designing and painting murals and large scale art works under the company name Charlotte Designs. During that time, she has painted over 500 murals for both commercial and domestic clients across the UK. Her clients include the NHS, Keuhne and Nagel, David Lloyd Leisure, Ironmongery Direct, Epson UK, Dulux, MK Gallery, Whittlebury Hall, Avanti West Coast and Force India Formula One, as well as a large number of schools, councils, hotels, care homes, smaller businesses and private clients (including royalty!).

She works in a variety of mediums, but her canvas work is predominantly acrylic, applied with a combination of knives, sponges and brushes. Much of her work is commission based, so her subject matter is extremely varied; but when left to her own devices, she enjoys painting rural landscapes with atmosphere and texture. Much of her work is of the rivers, woods and fields in the local area and she particularly enjoys portraying the seasons and exploring how colour and texture, can reflect the time of the day or the temperature.

Sarah is passionate about providing the highest level of service possible to her clients and is available for commissions for either murals or canvasses. She lives in South Northamptonshire with her husband, two teenage children and mad fluffy dog and much of her inspiration comes from her walking and running with the aforementioned fluffy dog. A full portfolio of her work can be found at www.charlottedesigns.co.uk

I enjoy art as a hobby and have done for some time. I am a member of two art groups and have attended a number of adult education painting courses, life drawing, workshops and demonstrations.

I favour botanical subjects and also like landscapes and country buildings. Watercolour is my main medium, as well as gouache and acrylics.

Occasionally I help with art and craft evenings voluntarily, which I thoroughly enjoy,
sharing my hobby with others. Looking forward to when we start those again. I exhibit paintings when I can.

I am an artist based in Milton Keynes.  My love of painting was inspired by my dad, who was a keen amateur artist.   I work in a variety of media but specialise in watercolours, acrylics and lino printing, though I’m always keen to try new arts and crafts.

For many years I worked in local primary schools, latterly teaching art, inspiring the young to develop a love of the arts. Now retired, I have more time to focus on my own work.

I am a member of Milton Keynes Society of Artists and regularly exhibit with them.  More recently I have been developing loose watercolour techniques in my landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes.  I enjoy capturing the changing moods of the weather.  I also specialise in detailed watercolour pet portraits.

My latest endeavour involves running watercolour workshops to raise money for Willen Hospice which has been enormously rewarding.

Charmian studied art in Liverpool back in the dark ages when we could all do the twist without falling over and everything was fab. With a career in computing she moved to London and cheered herself up by painting portraits as a hobby.

Now retired, she escaped from London and sought refuge in Milton Keynes where she lives with her family and a variety of dogs.

She paints in oils and specialises in people, animals and still life.

I began my painting journey 13 years ago when I first joined a local County Council Art Class in Duston, Northants. There began my love of watercolour painting; mainly flowers  and landscapes. I have since attended numerous workshops and classes where I have gained more inspiration and knowledge about this medium.

The artists who have greatly been my influence are Edward Seago and Edward Wesson due to their simplicity and cleanliness of colour. This hobby has given me so much pleasure that I just have to keep it up!

Having grown up in Germany I was drawn from a young age to the modernist movement of Expressionism, presenting the world from a subjective perspective, seeking to express the inner world of emotion rather than physical reality.

My interest in languages took me to Italy where I worked for almost a decade. Italy’s boundless passion in art and culture, enhanced and truly embodied my opportunity to drive my inner artist in its beautiful settings and light.

Over the years I have experimented with various mediums and now work exclusively with acrylics. It is a medium that offers me considerable control of its consistency, ways of application and an almost endless variety of texture.

I call Milton Keynes my home now, having lived here for many years and am carrying the bright Italian light, bold colours and passion for life into my paintings.

You can see more of my work on Facebook and Instagram. If you like my work and would like to commission me to paint something for you, please contact me via my Facebook page or Instagram.

I have drawn ever since I could hold a pencil. Attended both Derby Art College and Coventry gaining a degree in Graphic Design. Bristol University followed and then I taught Art for a few years to adults. I worked in the design studio at the Open University for 22 years – during this period I was not actively painting.

In 2009 I began again with my art – I’ve sold internationally, exhibited in London, the NEC and locally.

Until lockdown I was mainly an animal artist working in pastel on velour. – my pastels are left gathering dust, whilst I’ve moved on to oils – painting landscapes, seascapes, still life etc. Please take a look at more of my artwork on my new website www.rosamundewood.art

I’ll have cards of my artwork at Alderton as my range and style is quite extensive.

My interest in art started in my youth mainly with cartooning. Other than for a period during the 1970s where I produced some paintings in oil paint, it was not until my retirement in 2012 that I seriously started again, this time with acrylics, soft pastel, pen/brush and ink, Inktense pencils, and most recently oil and watercolour. I have also produced some small sculptures/models with air dry clay.

As for subject matter, most of my paintings and sketches are pets, wild animals and portraits, but I have dabbled in landscapes, seascapes and some architecture pictures. As with most artists my scope of subject matter is not cast in stone, as other forms, including abstract, may attract me in the future.

As the child of an accomplished artist, my father taught me to look, see and interpret the world around me. After a short spell at Art College, my life took a different direction and my drawing, design and painting were shelved. Now in later life, I have revisited my love of art and spend all available time designing and painting in watercolours, enjoying the process and behaviour of this difficult medium.

Hello and thanks for having a look out my work on this website. My name is Barry Turland and I am local artist, self taught with a fascination in painting in oils, acrylic and watercolour with the effects of using mixed media, throughout.

Thank you for your interest.

I am a mixed media artist working from my studio in East Northamptonshire. Coming from a technical background in graphic, architectural and product design, I was encourage to start painting by my Mother (a keen amateur artist who runs an art group), and discovered a love for creating, drawing and painting in a range of media and in a diverse variety of subjects. I subsequently went back to College, where I studied a Combined Studies BA Degree – which incorporated Art, Sculpture, Photography and Art History.

I am passionate about painting, and all aspects of art and design, a keen photographer, and am currently working on book illustration. I enjoy galleries, museums and exhibitions – a love I have shared with my Mother from a very early age.

I have been immersed in art and countryside, flora and fauna, gardening, walking, landscapes, wildlife and animals all of my life, and these elements, I believe are reflected in my work.

I work mainly in mixed media, on linen textured media as I feel this best lends itself to the combination of technical and creative skills I strive to combine. I hope you enjoy looking at my work and that it expresses even a fraction of the enormous pleasure I derive in painting.

I am a member of Kettering & District Art Society, The Society of Wildlife artists, and The Fellowship of Professional and Amateur Artists where she recently received a prize at their Open Exhibition.

I have been very pleased to have been exhibiting at Alderton for around 20 years now, and have been fortunate to have been voted People’s Choice in the past.  My most recent awards have been to receive “The Exhibition Prize” at the 2023 Northants Open Studio’s exhibition at Lamport Hall, and in 2024 – I was awarded “Boyce’s Choice” at the Kettering and District Art Societies Summer Exhibition, where I also won the People’s Choice award for a painting of Tawny Owls.

Commissions happily undertaken. For any enquiries, please e-mail: sli74art@gmail.com

Ruth lives in Brackley and finds artistic inspiration from the beautiful countryside, picturesque villages and market towns in the surrounding area. She works in variety of media: inks, gouache and acrylic but her favourite medium is pastel. Lately she has also experimented with textiles.

I have been painting and drawing since I was a teenager. I used to paint greeting cards for Gordon Fraser then moved onto landscapes, animals, people – but mostly trees. I have had several successful one man shows.

At the moment I tend to work on pictures suggested by my imagination from textures found in nature.

I take commissions.

Anne was our winner of the ‘Peoples Choice’ award in 2018 and 2019.

I am a mainly self taught artist who started painting watercolour landscapes thirty years ago after a friend persuaded me to try painting as a hobby.

A few years ago I was asked to do a portrait of a pet dog and reluctantly agreed to give it a try although I had not attempted to paint animals before. The painting was a success and this aroused my interest in the subject of animal portraiture and I now specialises in animal studies using pastel as my favourite medium for this subject. I also enjoys figurative drawing and painting.

Some of my small landscape paintings are included in private collections across the world:- in America, Canada, Mexico, France and the Oman.

I have become more interested in colour pencil recently and have attempted a variety of subjects, some of which are in the exhibition. I am still doing animals, in both Pastel and Coloured Pencils, but mainly for commissions now.

Many of my animal paintings, and other subjects, have been reproduced on the cards which I have for sale at the exhibition.

Commissions accepted – email :- pamelafitzsimmons@yahoo.co.uk

Self taught amateur artist now retired. I started painting using water colours and pen and ink pictures nearly 40 years ago, currently I now focus almost entirely on abstract imagery. My pictures are created in many different ways, using techniques that I am able to glean from various presentations. I scour the internet for the work of other artists and attend exhibitions e.g. the RA Summer Exhibition to draw inspiration from the works presented. My ambition is alway the next painting which I hope, be better than all my previous work.

Born in Windsor, Stuart spent much of his early life travelling the world with his diplomat family. Spending time in Africa, Australia, Tasmania, Canada and elsewhere, he uses this experience of colours, textures, flora and fauna to make images that reflect the different scenarios and cultures.

He is a trained musician and during his time in Australia and Tasmania, carved out a successful career, performing Rock, Soul, Blues, Latino and Jazz and even a little Country.

Returning to Britain in 2019, Stuart now divides his time between Wales and Northamptonshire.

Mike studied Fine Art at Derby College of Art. He then worked as a Technical Artist before completing two further years as an Art teacher. After moving to Germany in his 30s he gave up painting completely and only returned to it 10 years ago.

Since then he has had considerable success, selling 75% of his paintings around the Milton Keynes and North London areas. He has also exhibited in Milton Keynes gallery.

His work is not currently on exhibition in this area.

Mike works almost exclusively in Acrylic and centres his work on people in the street. This genre is not common among amateur artists but he really enjoys the unexpected scenes that play out all around us.
