Having always had an inner longing to take up art, it wasn’t until I retired that I started to sketch and paint. Now mainly working in watercolours, my favourite subjects are landscapes, seascapes, gardens and people (particularly my great grandchildren).
I have exhibited and sold many paintings at local exhibitions.
After a 40-year absence of drawing, lockdown in 2020 was the driver for me to pick up a pencil again! Completing various on-line courses reminded me of how much I like drawing in detail and over the past couple of years I have been commissioned to draw various pets for my friends and family. Portrait drawings is something I particularly enjoy and currently I am drawing various F1 drivers (my family and I are F1 fans!).
I am in the process of setting up my Instagram page and exhibiting at Alderton Art Festival will be a first for me.
Angela-Alina Vlad is a self taught emerging abstract artist based in Northamptonshire.
Angela uses multiple art mediums such as acrylic paint and inks, texture pastes, alcohol inks and also resin.
The main inspiration is the beauty and complexity of nature. Sometimes her art can be a stunning sunset inspired by a warm evening by the sea and other times it’s a visual movement of textures and colours. Water is usually the main subject, but in an abstract form, which allows Angela to express raw feelings, rather than depicting a literal representation.
With an abstract approach towards nature the possibilities are endless and Angela loves to explore this because it gives her the opportunity to always discover new techniques and to keep learning while creating.
I have always loved drawing and painting. I use mainly Acrylic, Pastel, Charcoal and Graphite. I get inspiration from many things but especially from walking in the countryside with my dog. I live in Silverstone and this picture was done very close to home in late summer last year.
I am a self taught watercolour painter. Having recently retired, I am now thoroughly enjoying finally having more time to devote to painting. I paint mainly from photographs and particularly like painting wildlife and pets. My own two Labradors have been very obliging models!
I am a Towcester based artist, who enjoys detailed pencil and pastel pencil work as well as looser oil painting.
Art and craft played a big part in my life from a very early age. My love of painting grew and my sole ambition was to go to art college. However, after staying on at school and achieving all the necessary qualifications my parents decided art was not a suitable career so art was put on the back burner. It wasn’t until after I retired that I started to paint again in 2010.
My favourite media are pen and wash, mixed media, pastel and acrylics. I particularly enjoy doing pet portraits in pastel, and pen and wash collages of towns/villages/ life histories, and have undertaken many commissions.
Chris is a new artist for our art festival, more details coming soon,

I am a self taught artist and have loved drawing and painting since childhood. My parents gave me my first sketchbook to stop me drawing on my bedroom walls. I could have been a Banksy!!
A love of the natural world has led me to draw and paint animals and flowers. I am a member of Towcester art society and Northampton botanical society.

I have enjoyed art from an early age with art material always at hand.
I am self taught and enjoy watercolours, coloured pencils, pastels and Chinese brush painting.
Over the past year I have done several animal drawings using coloured pencils. I love the texture that I can get with a sharp pencil. I still think I love drawing both large cats and domestic ones too. I have also had dog portrait commissions too. Watercolours are of places, landscapes and botanical. I was introduced to Chinese brush painting by a friend and picked up materials whilst travelling to the far east on a couple of holidays it is different to western art but enjoyable and relaxing.
I belong to Towcester Art Society, Northamptonshire Botanical Art Society and the Chinese Brush Painting Society

I am a self taught artist. I have always loved drawing and have some years ago I started painting with water colours and the realised that I really like the freedom I felt using oils. I paint all subjects mainly things that catch my eye.
Painter on glass since 1995.
Conny has spent the last twenty years seeking to free glass paint as an artistic medium from the restraints of decorative patterns. Her abstract panels play on perceptions of colour depth and light effects as the paint is allowed to meander across a variety of structural surfaces such as sand, glass and beads. Conny’s inspiration comes from a variety of sources: nature, foreign shores, her work as an art historian, and her interests in science and technology all coalesce to create works known for their tactile and engaging character.
– Member of Visual Images Group and Buckinghamshire Open Studios since 2015.
– Member of Northamptonshire Open Studios since 1998.
– Full Member Kettering & District Art Society.
– 2002 to 2014 Certificate to PhD, Art History, University of Leicester.
– Tutor and published author specialising in late medieval sculpture from Northern Germany and Pre-Raphaelitism, also German Expressionism, Renaissance art and the English Country House.
I grew up in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and I started painting when I left school as I had enjoyed my art sessions. I have continued since then although I have had no formal training. I like working with oils as they are vibrant and forgiving. My main interests have been seascapes and landscapes.
Born and raised in Bedfordshire, Jane has exhibited successfully in numerous group and solo shows. Her paintings have also been shown at the Mall Galleries in London with The Pastel Society and The Society of Women Artists and can now be viewed at Mosaic in Woburn or by appointment at her studio.
She works with art groups as a demonstrator and tutor and has weekly classes and a full programme of workshops every year.
Best known for her atmospheric pastel paintings of seascapes, landscapes and urban scenes, she also uses various other media when experimenting with colour and texture in her more abstract work.
A local artist, I paint in a contemporary style between realism and abstract, using watercolour and acrylics. I have recently completed a commission for 15 fluid art paintings in acrylics. The subjects that I like to paint are flowers and gardens, landscapes, seascapes, sunsets and of course fluid art abstract work.
I have drawn ever since I could hold a pencil. Attended both Derby Art College and Coventry gaining a degree in Graphic Design. Bristol University followed and then I taught Art for a few years to adults. I worked in the design studio at the Open University for 22 years – during this period I was not actively painting.
In 2009 I began again with my art – I’ve sold internationally, exhibited in London, the NEC and locally.
Until lockdown I was mainly an animal artist working in pastel on velour. – my pastels are left gathering dust, whilst I’ve moved on to oils – painting landscapes, seascapes, still life etc. Please take a look at more of my artwork on my new website www.rosamundewood.art
I’ll have cards of my artwork at Alderton as my range and style is quite extensive.
My interest in art started in my youth mainly with cartooning. Other than for a period during the 1970s where I produced some paintings in oil paint, it was not until my retirement in 2012 that I seriously started again, this time with acrylics, soft pastel, pen/brush and ink, Inktense pencils, and most recently oil and watercolour. I have also produced some small sculptures/models with air dry clay.
As for subject matter, most of my paintings and sketches are pets, wild animals and portraits, but I have dabbled in landscapes, seascapes and some architecture pictures. As with most artists my scope of subject matter is not cast in stone, as other forms, including abstract, may attract me in the future.

As the child of an accomplished artist, my father taught me to look, see and interpret the world around me. After a short spell at Art College, my life took a different direction and my drawing, design and painting were shelved. Now in later life, I have revisited my love of art and spend all available time designing and painting in watercolours, enjoying the process and behaviour of this difficult medium.
Since retirement I have joined a small art group in Northampton, I have always enjoyed art from a young age, and now with time to pursue this as a hobby.
Although I have done many painting’s over the years using different mediums I exhbited my paintings for the first time at the 2018 Alderton Art Festival.
Hello and thanks for having a look out my work on this website. My name is Barry Turland and I am local artist, self taught with a fascination in painting in oils, acrylic and watercolour with the effects of using mixed media, throughout.
Thank you for your interest.
Deborah interprets moments in watercolour from a variety of subject matter, ranging from landscapes, cityscapes, and flora and fauna. Her style varies from very detailed and accurate to impressionistic and abstract. The colour used depends on the moment captured by a photograph or visual memory and reflects the mood, atmosphere and energy of a snapshot from life.
Heat, rain or lighting changes excite Deborah to paint, capturing the personal and emotional attachment to the snapshot in time.
Deborah has recently revisited acrylic painting, and in this more recent work she has again tried to capture seasons, feelings and places of personal interest.
In her role as Director of an Arts College Deborah has been involved Visual and Performing Arts, including fine art, creative design, drama, dance and music. Deborah strives to spread creative arts pedagogy in the classroom, in her work, education and motivational speaking and training.
Deborah takes commissions and enjoys new challenges in composition, medium and style.

I’m Liz and I live in the Cotswolds now but used to live in Alderton.
I have been painting for about 15 years now.
I work in watercolour, ink and acrylic, my work ranges from abstract to contemporary and floral to landscape and anywhere in between depending on where my inspiration takes me. I hope you enjoy this times offerings as much as I’ve enjoyed painting them.
I’m an artist mainly specialising in watercolour, and although I’ve drawn and painted all my adult life, I’ve dedicated myself seriously to watercolour for the past 8 years.
My main inspiration is nature, but although I paint in a realistic style, I’m more concerned with the feeling and essence of a subject, rather than a precise portrayal.
I’m also interested in mythology and classic literature, and I enjoy the freedom of imagination that these subject offer.
I am a mixed media artist working from my studio in East Northamptonshire. Coming from a technical background in graphic, architectural and product design, I was encourage to start painting by my Mother (a keen amateur artist who runs an art group), and discovered a love for creating, drawing and painting in a range of media and in a diverse variety of subjects. I subsequently went back to College, where I studied a Combined Studies BA Degree – which incorporated Art, Sculpture, Photography and Art History.
I am passionate about painting, and all aspects of art and design, a keen photographer, and am currently working on book illustration. I enjoy galleries, museums and exhibitions – a love I have shared with my Mother from a very early age.
I have been immersed in art and countryside, flora and fauna, gardening, walking, landscapes, wildlife and animals all of my life, and these elements, I believe are reflected in my work.
I work mainly in mixed media, on linen textured media as I feel this best lends itself to the combination of technical and creative skills I strive to combine. I hope you enjoy looking at my work and that it expresses even a fraction of the enormous pleasure I derive in painting.
I am a member of Kettering & District Art Society, The Society of Wildlife artists, and The Fellowship of Professional and Amateur Artists where she recently received a prize at their Open Exhibition.
I have been very pleased to have been exhibiting at Alderton for around 20 years now, and have been fortunate to have been voted People’s Choice in the past. My most recent awards have been to receive “The Exhibition Prize” at the 2023 Northants Open Studio’s exhibition at Lamport Hall, and in 2024 – I was awarded “Boyce’s Choice” at the Kettering and District Art Societies Summer Exhibition, where I also won the People’s Choice award for a painting of Tawny Owls.

Anne was our winner of the ‘Peoples Choice’ award in 2018 and 2019.
I am a mainly self taught artist who started painting watercolour landscapes thirty years ago after a friend persuaded me to try painting as a hobby.
A few years ago I was asked to do a portrait of a pet dog and reluctantly agreed to give it a try although I had not attempted to paint animals before. The painting was a success and this aroused my interest in the subject of animal portraiture and I now specialises in animal studies using pastel as my favourite medium for this subject. I also enjoys figurative drawing and painting.
Some of my small landscape paintings are included in private collections across the world:- in America, Canada, Mexico, France and the Oman.
I have become more interested in colour pencil recently and have attempted a variety of subjects, some of which are in the exhibition. I am still doing animals, in both Pastel and Coloured Pencils, but mainly for commissions now.
Many of my animal paintings, and other subjects, have been reproduced on the cards which I have for sale at the exhibition.
Commissions accepted – email :- pamelafitzsimmons@yahoo.co.uk
I am a freelance illustrator and artist. I have worked as a freelance illustrator since 1982, in that time I have covered all fields of design, advertising & publishing in the UK and overseas.
Most of my works are all original paintings in either oil or acrylic.
Most of these are finished with gold/silver leaf and crystals, which gives then a added depth and lustre.

Mike studied Fine Art at Derby College of Art. He then worked as a Technical Artist before completing two further years as an Art teacher. After moving to Germany in his 30s he gave up painting completely and only returned to it 10 years ago.
Since then he has had considerable success, selling 75% of his paintings around the Milton Keynes and North London areas. He has also exhibited in Milton Keynes gallery.
His work is not currently on exhibition in this area.
Mike works almost exclusively in Acrylic and centres his work on people in the street. This genre is not common among amateur artists but he really enjoys the unexpected scenes that play out all around us.
He currently has no web page but can be contacted at:- mikebloor@yahoo.com
I have always enjoyed looking at art and architecture of all kinds. It wasn’t until I had back surgery four years ago that I had some time on my hands. It was then that I decided to Google “how to draw an apple”. I found it rewarding to see what my pencil produced.
I now take portrait classes at Buckingham Art School, enjoying the whole process and sharing it with like minded people.
If only I had more time!
