Janet’s details are coming soon.
Sylvia’s details are coming shortley.
As a fully trained designer I worked in television scenery design and Interior Design, before teaching design in Further Education and Secondary settings.
I am interested in painting buildings that are mostly, but not exclusively in Northamptonshire and have a particular interest in the windows and reflections that give life and vibrancy to the facade.
I have recently returned to painting after a gap of 15 years. In the past I have worked mainly to commission whilst also creating images for personal interest and challenge.

Northamptonshire based intuitive painter Melissa McDonald, works primarily in acrylics. Her constant source of inspiration is the ever changing landscape predominantly the skies and coast of Scotland and Cornwall living and traveling to these areas prolifically. Melissa attempts to capture the inner calm within these wild and atmospheric landscapes.
In the last 4 years Melissa has had success with local exhibitions and continues to explore opportunities further afield. Melissa is currently taking part in the exhibition at the Tarpey Gallery in Castle Donington.

Caroline Swan is a Towcester-based artist inspired by the places, people and landscapes of Northamptonshire.
Local scenes feature strongly in Caroline’s work, particularly Towcester and the surrounding countryside. She enjoys finding beauty in familiar places and has painted many of the town’s well-known landmarks, as well as quieter and less familiar views. Her work combines realism with a bold and expressive use of colour, creating paintings that are recognisable while capturing something of the atmosphere and character of a place.
Caroline also paints still life and florals in both acrylics and oils. She has also developed a distinctive bokeh style, creating atmospheric paintings using luminous layers of soft, out-of-focus circles of colour.
Caroline has been exhibiting locally since 2021 and regularly takes part in the Towcester Handmade Fayre. She is a member of South Northants Arts and Northants & Rutland Open Studios, and will be exhibiting at Silverstone Methodist Church as part of the NROS Art Trail from 19th to 27th September 2026.

My name is Johanna Cripps. I am a wildlife artist working in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside. I’ve always had a love of nature and am constantly inspired by the birds and animals that live in the woodlands surrounding my cottage in the country.
As a child, all I ever wanted to do was to draw. I would always be doodling or sketching. Art has always been my first love and I am happiest when I am creating an artwork.
My medium of choice is pastels and colour pencils predominantly, but I also explore with oil pastels, acrylics and other mixed media. I am known for my highly detailed birds, animals and pet portraits, which allow me to capture their unique personalities and characteristics with stunning accuracy and detail.
I was encouraged in art throughout my early years and was awarded a Bachelors Degree in Interior and Spacial Design.
I am a member of Towcester Art Society and I am taking part in the Northants and Rutland Open Studios at Lamport Hall in September. I have exhibitions coming up later this year.

As a musician and teacher, I came to art and the joy it brings late in life.
Having tried all kinds of mediums, I generally enjoy working in Acrylics most.
Lesley’s details are coming soon.
It is only in the last two years I have started to draw and paint as a means of relaxation. I am self taught and love the process of creating something which is a new experience for me.
My name is Nessa Farey, I like to work in watercolour or pen and wash. I paint a range of different subjects and have now been painting for about 3 years. Prior to this I painted at school. I wish I had discovered I could still paint a lot sooner!
My interest in art began later in life when I attended classes at Buckingham Art School. My initial enthusiasm was for portraiture and life drawing but that widened to include a variety of subjects using many styles and materials. Sadly the art school closed with the onset of the Covid epidemic but I have continued to explore different creative options including, most recently, printing.
I took up painting again in 2010 having done very little since my school days. I prefer working in pastel, pen and wash, acrylics and mixed media. I enjoy painting all subjects, and in particular pet portraits and village compilations like this recent one of Milton Keynes.
Laura is a new artist for our art festival, and her details will be coming soon.
I am mainly a self taught hobby artist, who discovered the enjoyment of painting about 10 years ago.
I love the challenge of painting across a wide spectrum of subject matters and mediums, although Oils are becoming my preferred medium. If it inspires me I’ll paint it!
From still life, portraits, animals, birds, flowers, cars, boats and objects in a landscape. I am especiallyy interested in ‘things’ that are delapidated, abandoned, rusting, decaying and forgotten!
I also paint both in a detailed realism style but also in a loser more painterly way.
Alderton Art Festival is the first time I have ever officially exhibited my art.
The late Derek Lucas (1920-2018) was an accomplished, professional artist who devoted his life to his art. During his working years, he earned a living in commercial art and book illustration, which included the 1960s and 1970s editions of The Secret Seven and many others. In later years, The Museum of London commissioned and housed his imaginative and beautifully executed depictions of early human life. He has had work exhibited all over the world, including in The National Museum in Riyadh. His illustrations of traditional Arabs on horseback were much acclaimed, back in the late 1980s.
In his retirement, he painted for pleasure in oils, acrylics and watercolours, selling well in a variety of art shops and galleries as well as at his own private exhibitions.
I have always enjoyed visiting art galleries, but only recently began to paint.
My favourite genre is Pop Art, it allows me to be creative.
Although I have dabbled with water colours, oils and pastels, my medium of choice is acrylics. Acrylics create bold colours, without the fuss of oils and allow me to be expressive.
For me, art is fun, and hopefully you can see this reflected in my work.
An abstract painter raised in Northamptonshire and just finished studying at Nottingham Trent University, Olivia Reid has always been drawn to vibrant colours in art. Inspired by this, she integrates bold colour combinations into her own pieces, aiming to create visually captivating compositions. Central to her work is an exploration of how gravity influences paint movement on the canvas, highlighting the importance of process in her art.
Her paintings feature deliberate drips of paint pouring off the edges, imparting a sense of freedom and spontaneity to her work. This distinctive approach lends her pieces a unique and unrestrained quality.
I am a self-taught artist and I like experimenting with different mediums, acrylics and soft pastels mainly. I have been to art classes.
Since retiring. I now go to parklands art group.
I had a career teaching furniture and product design and in retirement have taken up painting, depicting scenery from my native Pembrokeshire and more locally in Northamptonshire
I enjoy creating a sense of atmosphere and loosely interpret what I see with quick application of paint creating strong dynamic gestural movement on canvas using acrylic paint.
Sally Pennycate is a landscape artist inspired by the beauty and forms of nature, working in and around Northamptonshire.
Sally distils the natural world into meditative pieces that seem haunting and immersive. She also gathers pieces of nature are immortalised within the canvas building them up with layers of paint and metallic mica powders to preserve them forever.
Her art practice uses environmentally friendly materials as much as possible as she hopes to illustrate the beauty of the landscape and to help preserve it.

I have enjoyed art from an early age with art material always at hand.
I am self taught and enjoy watercolours, coloured pencils, pastels and Chinese brush painting.
Over the past year I have done several animal drawings using coloured pencils. I love the texture that I can get with a sharp pencil. I still think I love drawing both large cats and domestic ones too. I have also had dog portrait commissions too. Watercolours are of places, landscapes and botanical. I was introduced to Chinese brush painting by a friend and picked up materials whilst travelling to the far east on a couple of holidays it is different to western art but enjoyable and relaxing.

Painter on glass since 1995.
Conny has spent the last twenty years seeking to free glass paint as an artistic medium from the restraints of decorative patterns. Her abstract panels play on perceptions of colour depth and light effects as the paint is allowed to meander across a variety of structural surfaces such as sand, glass and beads. Conny’s inspiration comes from a variety of sources: nature, foreign shores, her work as an art historian, and her interests in science and technology all coalesce to create works known for their tactile and engaging character.

I am an artist based in Milton Keynes. My love of painting was inspired by my dad, who was a keen amateur artist. I work in a variety of media but specialise in watercolours, acrylics and lino printing, though I’m always keen to try new arts and crafts.
For many years I worked in local primary schools, latterly teaching art, inspiring the young to develop a love of the arts. Now retired, I have more time to focus on my own work.
I am a member of Milton Keynes Society of Artists and regularly exhibit with them. More recently I have been developing loose watercolour techniques in my landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes. I enjoy capturing the changing moods of the weather. I also specialise in detailed watercolour pet portraits.
My latest endeavour involves running watercolour workshops to raise money for Willen Hospice which has been enormously rewarding.

A local artist, I paint in a contemporary style between realism and abstract, using watercolour and acrylics. I have recently completed a commission for 15 fluid art paintings in acrylics. The subjects that I like to paint are flowers and gardens, landscapes, seascapes, sunsets and of course fluid art abstract work.
I have drawn ever since I could hold a pencil. Attended both Derby Art College and Coventry gaining a degree in Graphic Design. Bristol University followed and then I taught Art for a few years to adults. I worked in the design studio at the Open University for 22 years – during this period I was not actively painting.
In 2009 I began again with my art – I’ve sold internationally, exhibited in London, the NEC and locally.
Until lockdown I was mainly an animal artist working in pastel on velour. – my pastels are left gathering dust, whilst I’ve moved on to oils – painting landscapes, seascapes, still life etc. Please take a look at more of my artwork on my new website www.rosamundewood.art
I’ll have cards of my artwork at Alderton as my range and style is quite extensive.
My interest in art started in my youth mainly with cartooning. Other than for a period during the 1970s where I produced some paintings in oil paint, it was not until my retirement in 2012 that I seriously started again, this time with acrylics, soft pastel, pen/brush and ink, Inktense pencils, and most recently oil and watercolour. I have also produced some small sculptures/models with air dry clay.
As for subject matter, most of my paintings and sketches are pets, wild animals and portraits, but I have dabbled in landscapes, seascapes and some architecture pictures. As with most artists my scope of subject matter is not cast in stone, as other forms, including abstract, may attract me in the future.

As the child of an accomplished artist, my father taught me to look, see and interpret the world around me. After a short spell at Art College, my life took a different direction and my drawing, design and painting were shelved. Now in later life, I have revisited my love of art and spend all available time designing and painting in watercolours, enjoying the process and behaviour of this difficult medium.
Since retirement I have joined a small art group in Northampton, I have always enjoyed art from a young age, and now with time to pursue this as a hobby.
Although I have done many painting’s over the years using different mediums I exhbited my paintings for the first time at the 2018 Alderton Art Festival.
Hello and thanks for having a look out my work on this website. My name is Barry Turland and I am local artist, self taught with a fascination in painting in oils, acrylic and watercolour with the effects of using mixed media, throughout.

Deborah interprets moments in watercolour from a variety of subject matter, ranging from landscapes, cityscapes, and flora and fauna. Her style varies from very detailed and accurate to impressionistic and abstract. The colour used depends on the moment captured by a photograph or visual memory and reflects the mood, atmosphere and energy of a snapshot from life.
Heat, rain or lighting changes excite Deborah to paint, capturing the personal and emotional attachment to the snapshot in time.
Deborah has recently revisited acrylic painting, and in this more recent work she has again tried to capture seasons, feelings and places of personal interest.
In her role as Director of an Arts College Deborah has been involved Visual and Performing Arts, including fine art, creative design, drama, dance and music. Deborah strives to spread creative arts pedagogy in the classroom, in her work, education and motivational speaking and training.

I am a mixed media artist working from my studio in East Northamptonshire. Coming from a technical background in graphic, architectural and product design, I was encourage to start painting by my Mother (a keen amateur artist who runs an art group), and discovered a love for creating, drawing and painting in a range of media and in a diverse variety of subjects. I subsequently went back to College, where I studied a Combined Studies BA Degree – which incorporated Art, Sculpture, Photography and Art History.
I am passionate about painting, and all aspects of art and design, a keen photographer, and am currently working on book illustration. I enjoy galleries, museums and exhibitions – a love I have shared with my Mother from a very early age.
I have been immersed in art and countryside, flora and fauna, gardening, walking, landscapes, wildlife and animals all of my life, and these elements, I believe are reflected in my work.
I work mainly in mixed media, on linen textured media as I feel this best lends itself to the combination of technical and creative skills I strive to combine. I hope you enjoy looking at my work and that it expresses even a fraction of the enormous pleasure I derive in painting.
I am a member of Kettering & District Art Society, The Society of Wildlife artists, and The Fellowship of Professional and Amateur Artists where she recently received a prize at their Open Exhibition.

Anne was our winner of the ‘Peoples Choice’ award in 2018 and 2019.
I am a mainly self taught artist who started painting watercolour landscapes thirty years ago after a friend persuaded me to try painting as a hobby.
A few years ago I was asked to do a portrait of a pet dog and reluctantly agreed to give it a try although I had not attempted to paint animals before. The painting was a success and this aroused my interest in the subject of animal portraiture and I now specialises in animal studies using pastel as my favourite medium for this subject. I also enjoys figurative drawing and painting.
Some of my small landscape paintings are included in private collections across the world:- in America, Canada, Mexico, France and the Oman.
I have become more interested in colour pencil recently and have attempted a variety of subjects, some of which are in the exhibition. I am still doing animals, in both Pastel and Coloured Pencils, but mainly for commissions now.
Many of my animal paintings, and other subjects, have been reproduced on the cards which I have for sale at the exhibition.
Commissions accepted – email :- pamelafitzsimmons@yahoo.co.uk
